Northwest Whitfield will hold a celebration rally for its state championship softball team at 3 p.m. Thursday in the school’s gymnasium.
The public is invited to attend the event, which is scheduled to last 30 minutes.
The Lady Bruins beat Madison County 2-1 on Bayli Cruse’s walk-off home run in the eighth inning in the Class 4A title game Saturday in Columbus. The win completed an undefeated run through the postseason.
The Lady Bruins finished with a 35-3 record as part of a four-year run for the program that included more than 100 victories, three region titles and three top-four finishes at the state tournament. Northwest previously won slow-pitch titles in Class 3A in 1987 and 1993, but this was the school’s first title in fast-pitch softball, which is the only version of the game the GHSA has sanctioned since 2009.
