Roadrunners to start golf teams, will roost in Rocky Face

Dalton State College added another to its list of sports being rolled out for the 2013-2014 school year.

This one involves clubs, sand traps and a farm without animals.

School officials announced Monday the Roadrunners would add men’s and women’s golf next year, with those teams joining the plans for men’s basketball, competitive cheerleading, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country and women’s volleyball. The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face will be the NAIA teams’ home course for practices and matches.

“We’re ecstatic that we’re able to start it early,” said Derek Waugh, Dalton State’s athletic director. “It already puts us ahead of schedule for (the 2014-15 school year), when we plan to start men’s and women’s soccer and women’s basketball.”
