JESUP —
Defense attorneys for a southeast Georgia man convicted of murder are trying to spare his life as a jury begins weighing his sentence for killing a 74-year-old former district attorney.
Bobby “Rex” Stribling faces either life in prison or a death sentence after a jury convicted him of malice murder Wednesday in the slaying of Glenn Thomas Jr.
The sentencing phase of the trial is scheduled to begin Thursday morning in Wayne County.
Thomas was beaten and robbed at his Jesup law office in 2007. He died from severe head injuries two weeks later.
Thomas served 30 years as district attorney for the Brunswick circuit. He later became a municipal court judge.
It took the jury just two hours to convict Stribling.
