Ex-DA slaying case headed for jury

JESUP — Jury deliberations are expected to begin for a man charged with murdering a former district attorney.

Testimony concluded in Jesup on Tuesday in the murder trial of 49-year-old Bobby “Rex” Stribling Jr. The jury is expected to get the case on Wednesday.

Stribling is charged with killing Jesup municipal Judge Glenn Thomas Jr.

Thomas, a 74-year-old former DA of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, was beaten on June 25, 2007. He died two weeks later.

Attorneys for Stribling say he snapped after Thomas called him a “white trash convict” during a meeting in Thomas’ office, where Stribling had gone to seek a refund of $500 for past legal services.

Prosecutors say Stribling was armed with a heavy object and bludgeoned Thomas in the head more than a dozen times.
