ATHENS —
The Georgia Court of Appeals has upheld jury’s verdict that a man accused in a September 2009 sexual assault is mentally fit to stand trial.
The Athens Banner-Herald Tuesday reported (http://bit.ly/XXceK0 ) the court last week ruled 27-year-old Christopher Matthew Tiegreen is fit to face charges of aggravated assault, criminal attempt to commit rape, false imprisonment, sexual battery, criminal attempt to commit aggravated sexual battery, and third-degree child cruelty.
Tiegreen’s attorneys said a car crash he was in nearly a decade ago caused severe brain injury and left him unable to control his impulses.
Tiegreen is accused of assaulting a 34-year-old woman on her lawn in front of her infant son after slipping away from two professional caregivers who were supposed to monitor him 24 hours a day.
