Emerson approves Sunday sales

ROME (AP) — Residents of Emerson will soon be able to buy alcohol on Sundays.

Voters decided in a referendum last week to allow Sunday sales in restaurants and stores. The Rome News-Tribute reports that the vote passed 133-63. A separate question about off-premises package sales passed 136 -61.

Georgia law had previously banned Sunday sales, though lawmakers since relented. Local communities are now allowed to decide whether they want Sunday sales.
