ALBANY (AP) — A popular performance scheduled for next week at a Marine Corps base in southwest Georgia has been canceled because of federal budget cuts.
WALB-TV reports officials at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany announced Saturday that a public performance by the U.S. Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment scheduled for Tuesday has been scrapped. Base officials say the Washington-based unit is canceling all ceremonial travel events because of the cuts.
The Battle Color Detachment is made up of musicians from the Marines’ Drum and Bugle Corps as well as drill team and color guard members.
The Pentagon is dealing with painful budget cuts that kicked in automatically this month after the president and Congress failed to agree on a plan for cutting the federal deficit.
