EASTMAN, Ga. (AP) — Heavy rain struck middle Georgia, toppling trees and causing streams to overflow, and three counties closed their schools.
Roads were hazardous in some areas, and schools were closed on Tuesday in Dodge, Treutlen and Wheeler counties. Teachers were told to report at 9 a.m. in Dodge County and 10 a.m. in Treutlen County.
The National Weather Service reported severe thunderstorm winds toppled a tree onto a house in Americus.
The Telegraph newspaper in Macon reports that officials in Crisp County said more than a dozen roads were closed.
A flash flood watch was posted for an area stretching from Columbus to Houston County to south of Augusta.
