Members of the community will rally around Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School cheerleaders tonight after they were banned from displaying signs with Bible verses during football games.
The signs — which are made of paper and the kind of sign football players often break through at the beginning of games — have carried such statements as “Commit to the Lord.”
According to news reports, a Fort Oglethorpe resident filed a verbal complaint against the Catoosa County school system, saying the display of Bible verses on the football field is a violation of federal law.
The rally in support of the cheerleaders will be held at 7 p.m. at Chick-Fil-A on Battlefield Parkway in Fort Oglethorpe.
