Prosthetic leg reunited with child who used it

WATKINSVILLE — A child has been reunited with the prosthetic leg he used after it was found on the side of a northeast Georgia road and turned in to police.

Authorities say a jogger found the small prosthesis July 23. Police speculated that it had fallen from a moving car due to a scuff mark from where it slid across the pavement.

A friend of a family that just moved from Oregon to Georgia spotted a news story about the leg, and it then became clear the leg belongs to 6-year-old Bl 5/8 Riggs. However, his mother Melissa Riggs says he can no longer use the prosthesis because it was damaged when it fell from the car.

Riggs says her son was born with a deformed leg and endured an amputation at age 2.
