ATLANTA —
The Georgia Supreme Court won’t stop the execution of a man who killed two college students.
The court voted unanimously Thursday to deny a stay for Andrew Allen Cook. He’s set to be executed by lethal injection Thursday at 7 p.m.
The 38-year-old Cook was convicted in the 1995 slayings of two Mercer University students. They were shot several times in a car at Lake Juliette. Cook didn’t know either victim, authorities say the crime was random.
In addition to denying his request for a stay, the Georgia Supreme Court also denied his request to appeal a lower court’s decision claiming he should not be executed due to mental illness.
Cook’s attorneys have argued his trial attorneys provided ineffective counsel and failed to present adequate information about his mental illness.
