AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Augusta authorities have charged two men with murder in the death of a man shot 35 years ago in his front yard.
Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Peebles says authorities charged 58-year-old William Lawrence Coffey, of Marietta, Okla., with murder and gun charges. They arrested 53-year-old Mark Anthony Hill for murder shortly after noon Friday in Augusta.
Two other men, who investigators refused to identify, remain wanted in the case.
Peebles says police received a tip in a letter last August. Investigators then spent the next six months trying to identify the victim. Peebles says they believe all records of the case were lost many years ago to water damage.
