DA: Gun charge added to case against Ga. official

BRUNSWICK — Prosecutors say they’re adding gun charges to their case against a Brunswick city commissioner accused of taking a $300 bribe to help a man get a job as a police officer.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson told a judge Friday that investigators have a warrant to charge Commissioner James Brooks with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say Brooks took money in exchange for promising to expunge the criminal record of a man applying to be a police officer.

The Florida Times-Union reports (http://bit.ly/wgVv0H ) Brooks has a prior felony conviction for taking out a credit card under a false name. His attorney, Alan Tucker, says Brooks had his rights to carry a firearm restored and was issued a gun permit.
