ATLANTA —
Authorities say nearly 4 inches of rain has fallen in parts of northwest Georgia, leading to flooding and road closures.
Emergency management directors in Dade and Walker counties said minor flooding was occurring in their counties. The National Weather Service reports that several creeks and small streams in the northwest part of the state have overflowed their banks and parts of roads near the waterways are flooded and closed to traffic.
Forecasters say an additional 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is possible in northwest Georgia through Tuesday evening.
Several north Georgia counties and most of the Atlanta metropolitan area remain under a flood watch through Wednesday morning.
The flood watch covers several north Georgia cities including Atlanta, Calhoun, Cartersville, Chatsworth, Cleveland, Dahlonega, Dalton, Decatur, Gainesville, Lawrenceville, Marietta and Rome.
