BRUNSWICK —
A judge has denied bond for a Brunswick city commissioner who was jailed after police charged him with taking a $300 bribe for a man who wanted help getting a job as a police officer.
The Brunswick News reports (http://bit.ly/x9MB2D) that a Camden County magistrate judge determined that Commissioner James Brooks could try to intimidate witnesses in an ongoing criminal investigation. Camden County Chief Magistrate Judge Jennifer Lewis decided Brooks would post a “significant threat or danger to the people of Camden County and Glynn County” if released.
Brooks’ attorney, Alan Tucker, told the judge that even former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich got a bond. Blagojevich was convicted of multiple corruption counts in 2011.
Tucker says the bribery charge facing his client won’t hold up in a trial.
