MARIETTA —
The city of Marietta has apologized to a local restaurant and told the owner she is welcome to fly flags expressing support for the military.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/N2y9Je ) a code enforcement officer cited Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q for flying non-governmental flags and ordered them taken down within 48 hours.
The two flags in question were a POW-MIA flag and another with insignias of America’s armed forces above the motto “We Support Our Troops.” General Manager Michelle Jehlen says she took the flags down to avoid a fine.
An explanation on social media explaining why she took the flags down sparked an uproar, and city officials reversed their position on Thursday — just in time for Independence Day.
