The Dalton Water Polo Club beat Norcross’ B team and then lost to the Norcross A team in play at the Georgia High School Water Polo Association state championships Saturday at the Cumming Aquatic Center.
Dalton, the No. 6 seed in the tournament, beat Norcross B 11-8, and fell to Norcross A 15-4. Dalton will play at 10 a.m. today against Lakeside-DeKalb. The winner advances to play in the fifth-place game, while the loser will play in the seventh-place game in the tournament.
In the victory, Dalton (8-5 overall) put 24 shots on goal, and was led by Taylor Dale, who won four springs and scored five goals. Michael O’Brien, Taylor Mathis and Pierson Scarborough all had two goals each, while Matthew Franey and Chris Kazmierski combined for seven saves in goal.
In the loss, Dale finished with a pair of goals, as Dalton had 18 shots on goal overall. Mathis and Franey scored Dalton’s other goals. In goal, Josh Satterfield had four saves.
