Dalton State College is making progress in its search for a men’s basketball coach.
Roadrunners athletic director Derek Waugh told The Daily Citizen via email that officials have narrowed their search to eight candidates and interviews have started. Waugh wrote in the email that there were more than 60 inquiries about the job.
“Among the eight finalists, they account for 31 NCAA Tournament appearances (as head or assistant coaches), two NIT appearances and 19 conference championships,” he wrote.
Dalton State plans to relaunch its long-dormant intercollegiate athletic program during the 2013-14 school year, with men’s basketball among the sports expected to be played by the Roadrunners in the first year. When Waugh was hired in February, he specified filling the men’s basketball coach’s job as one of the first things on his to-do list.
To help him, Waugh formed a six-person committee to examine resumés and offer suggestions and recommendations.
