Arlington whips CHS

The first time Christian Heritage played Arlington Christian in the regular season, the Lions won by 20 points.

On Friday at Arlington Christian Academy in Fairburn, with the Georgia Independent School Association’s Region 4-2A championship on the line, the Eagles saw the Lions’ 20 point victory and raised them another 20, winning 78-38, handing Christian Heritage it’s most lopsided loss of the season.

The Lions (24-5) managed to hang with Arlington Christian for a quarter, trailing 11-9. But the Eagles went on a 23-6 tear in the second quarter and wore Christian Heritage down.

“It was just a real physical game,” Lions coach Chad Woodson said. “They probably blocked our first seven shots with no fouls called. But (the Eagles) pressured us well and we weren’t able to knock shots down.”

Damien Chaney led the Lions with 12 points and Will Clark added nine.

Christian Heritage, as a No. 2 seed in the state playoffs, will play the No. 3 seed (Friday’s Westminster Christian-Monsignor Donavon winner) from Region 1-2A on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Middle Georgia College.

• Arlington Christian girls 100, Christian Heritage 39: Undefeated Arlington Christian had three players score at least 20 points in routing the Lady Lions in the Region 4-2A championship game, also at Arlington Christian.

Arlington Christian (27-0) jumped out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead and was up 50-18 at halftime. Jessica Welch scored 27 points, Jasmine Williams 26 and Meghan Downes 20.

Maggie Peeples had a game-high 29 points for the Lady Lions (21-5), who advance to the Georgia Independent School Association state tournament next week at Middle Georgia College. They will play Wednesday at 4 p.m.
