Dalton Middle School’s baseball team opened the season with a dominant win Monday, beating visiting Rome 15-0 in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule.
The Cougars tallied 14 hits, with Maddux Houghton leading the way with a 3-for-3 effort that included a double. Brock Nelson was 2-for-2 with a double and picked up the win on the mound, striking out four in two innings of work.
Cole Shelton was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Sam Stepp was 2-for-2 with a double.
Area middle school results are published each Monday and Thursday in The Daily Citizen. Coaches should send information to sports@daltoncitizen.com, with the final score, outstanding performers, team’s win-loss record and date and location of the competition included in the report.
Events that take place on Monday and Tuesday must be received by noon Wednesday for publication; events that take place on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday must be received by noon Sunday for publication.
