Dalton Middle School pitchers Nik Malchesky and Cole Shelton combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the Cougars blanked Ringgold 10-0 on Thursday.
Malchesky went three innings, striking out four, and Shelton had a pair of strikeouts over the last two innings. At the plate, Thomas Wright led Dalton, going 2 for 2 with a two-run homer. Shelton was also 2 for 2, and Vinny Vega had an extra-base hit with a double. The Cougars are 2-0 on the year.
• New Hope 8-3, Valley Point 3-0: A nice combination of hitting and pitching powered New Hope to a doubleheader sweep at New Hope on Monday.
In the opening victory, Sebastian Orozco was 3 for 3 with an RBI, while David Welborn drove in a pair of runs with a double. Jack Brock had two RBIs, and Caleb Womac drove in a run as well. On the mound, Omar Hernandez struck out five in 2 1/3 innings of work, and Orozco came on in relief and held the Green Waves scoreless the rest of the way.
In the nightcap, David Welborn and Womac combined for a no-hitter. Welborn went four innings and struck out six, while Womac had a pair of strikeouts in the fifth in relief. At the plate, Caleb McAtee was 2 for 2 with an RBI, and Caleb Ramsey drove in a run while going 2 for 3. Hernandez had a double, and Jack Brock drove in the game’s other run.

Cats celebrate championship soccer season
