Here are the notes and news from the week in pro wrestling: “The Anvil” has been hit hard. Former WWE wrestler Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart was arrested this week in Florida on drug and theft charges.
A gas station worker watched as Neidhart caused a scene, then spilled and took several pills when he stopped to fill up his car. He was found with Oxycontin and methadone. He is the son-in-law of renowned wrestling trainer Stu Hart and has a daughter, Natalya, currently wrestling for WWE.
Jenni Neidhart, “The Anvil’s” oldest daughter said her father has had a drug problem for years and told “The Calgary Sun” the incident was a “serious cry for help.”
• She was eccentric. She was a little bit frightening. She was intimidating. But she was one of the most talented female wrestlers of the past 25 years. Luna Vachon (Gertrude Elizabeth Vachon) died last week of a suspected drug overdose. She was 48.
Luna, the niece of the legendary “Mad Dog” Vachon, had a 22-year career and held several titles. She was trained by The Fabulous Moolah and herself had an impact on the careers of many female wrestlers.
• Hulk Hogan was hospitalized with serious back pain this week. He injured himself after picking up seashells. Yep, that’s the same man who once body slammed Andre The Giant. No word if seashells have been added as the 10th Wonder of the World.
The Local Corner: TWA will hold its annual “Foot-Brawl” game tonight. That’s right. Football meets wrestling in this unique match.

Area tournaments preview: Pressure rises as season nears end
(Misty Watson/The Daily Citizen) Southeast Whitfield senior Jeremy White, bottom, posts up to roll Armuchee’s Phillip Broome during their 120-pound match Tuesday at Southeast. White is one of only two Raiders to qualify for sectionals and state a year ago, but Southeast will try to improve that number as it heads to the Area 7-3A tournament today at Allatoona High.
Wrestling may not be easy, but for much of the Georgia high school season, the sport’s schedule is forgiving.
