New Hope Middle’s baseball team started its first week back from spring break with a pair of victories on the road.
On Monday, the Kodiaks topped Lake Forest of Cleveland, Tenn., 10-4, at AT&T Field, the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts.
The Kodiaks (5-1) put together their offense in bunches — they scored six runs in the second and four in the fifth — while Austin Morrison, Robbie Stavrow, Logan Branson and Cameron Womac combined for a no-hitter on the mound. Branson picked up the win.
At the plate, Stavrow tripled and drove in three runs, while Morrison was 2-for-4 and Caleb Ramsey and Grant Middleton each drove in a run.
On Tuesday, New Hope beat North Whitfield 9-7 at Edwards Park to improve to 3-1 in North Georgia Middle School Athletic League play.
Stavrow picked up a save by striking out the final batter with runners in scoring position. Morrison held on to the win after allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out three and walking two in 4 1/3 innings on the mound.
At the plate, Stavrow drove in a pair of runs. Devin Wellborn added a double and an RBI, Omar Hernandez doubled and Morrison and Middleton each had an RBI.
• Christian Heritage 8, Lookout Valley 5: Jantzen Smith allowed three hits in 3 1/3 innings and picked up the win for the Lions at home on Tuesday against the Tennessee school.
Daryn Pasqua allowed no hits and struck out three as he worked the final 1 2/3 innings in relief of Smith, while Jonathan Lewallen led the Lions at the plate with a three-run triple.
Softball
• Grace Academy 4, Christian Heritage 3: The Lady Lions lost in extra innings Tuesday at East Brainerd Rec Center in Chattanooga, falling for the first time in four games to start the season.
Halle Poteet led Christian Heritage with two hits, including a triple, while Hailey Jones had a triple and a sac fly.
Grace Academy remained undefeated with the win.
