Ridgeland advances to semifinals with rout

ROSSVILLE — Behind another dominant performance on the ground and an equally impressive showing by the defense, the Ridgeland Panthers bulled their way into the Class 4A state semifinals for the first time in school history, blasting Mary Persons 45-14 in front of a packed house at Bowers and Painter Field on Friday night.

Ridgeland (12-1) racked up another 385 yards on 57 carries, getting yet another 200-yard outing from senior Darrell Bridges, who had 459 yards and eight touchdowns in his first two playoff games, ripped off another 205 yards against the Bulldogs (10-3) on 25 carries.

Vonn Bell finished with 10 carries for 84 yards, including a 37-yard fourth-quarter score.
