The course was soaked, the wind was out in full force and there was no time for a practice round.
Yet, Dalton’s golf team made good of its appearance in the Gwinnett Open at The Chimney’s Golf Course in Winder on Saturday, finishing fourth overall in a 24-team field that also featured Northwest Whitfield.
In the event, which used a modified Stableford scoring system, Dalton shot a 176, finishing behind Peachtree Ridge (182), Mill Creek (188) and winner Greenbriar (200).
Northwest Whifield shot a 121 and finished, “somewhere near the bottom,” Bruins coach Jim McGrew said.
The Catamounts were led by Chase Miller, who scored a 45, Zac Coquerille (37), Will Morrow (36), Yosua Jior (31) and Dylan Coffey (27).
“I was proud of the way we played today,” Cats coach Chad Jordan said. “Considering the circumstances, we went out and scored pretty well.”
The Bruins were led by Ben Harris (30), David Lomax (25), Connor Wilson (24), Sam Speights (22) and Silas Ledford (20).
“I feel like we’re getting better,” McGrew said of his young team. “We just need to keep working at it. I’m glad the kids got to play in this tournament. It was a fun format and something different.”f
