Hipp finishes tourney tied for 20th after 74

ALBANY — Chatsworth’s Colby Hipp shot a 2-over-par 74 in Wednesday’s final round of the Georgia Junior Championship at Albany’s Doublegate Country Club, putting him at 8 over for the tournament as he tied for 20th with three others.

Hipp opened with a 71 on Monday at the 54-hole Georgia State Golf Association event and held a share of fourth place heading into the second round.

On Tuesday, he shot a 79 and fell into a tie for 29th. Among six area golfers who qualified for the tournament, he was the only one who made the cut of 70 players at 11 over after the second round. He was also the first area player to advance to the tournament’s final round in two years.

Duluth’s Andy Shim shot a 70 Wednesday to finish 11 under and take home the title. Augusta’s Greyson Sigg, the 2011 champion, finished 6 under after shooting a field-best 68 Wednesday. Marietta’s Adam Wright finished 1 under while Alpharetta’s Brandon Lee finished even and was the only other player not over par.

The top eight finishers automatically qualify for the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match, scheduled for later this summer. Four golfers tied at 1 over to qualify for the event. Hipp was 6 over par heading into the final round, five strokes back from eighth place.
