Clark climbs into contention

Dalton’s Michael Clark II shot himself into contention in the Nationwide Tour’s Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae in Hayward, Calif., on Friday.

Clark, who started the tournament with a 3-under 68, came back with a second-day 7-under 64 that left him at 10-under 132.

David Heam shot 65 for a 129 and leads Miguel Angel Carballo and Frank Lickliter II by two shots.

Three other golfers — Jon Mills, Doug LaBelle II and Colt Knost — share fourth place with Clark.

Clark’s front side on Friday included a bogey at No. 5 and a double-bogey 7 at No. 9. He birdied the 10th, 11th and 14th holes before dropping in an eagle-3 on the par-5 15th to kick his round into high gear.

Clark kept it going with a birdie on No. 16 and closed the day with a birdie-3 on the finishing hole.
