North Georgia Speedway racing season to return

North Georgia Speedway will reopen July 21, hosting a race for the first time in almost two months.

The racing schedule at the Murray County dirt track will include a full racing program with all classes — except for Super Late Model, which is no longer a regular class — competing for points in the NGS season standings. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and racing begins at 6:30.

Jason Jones, who took over as promoter July 2 after previous promoters Keiff Ellis and Terry Wilson left the track, said he will honor the season standings up to this point.

The speedway took a one-month break in May for maintenance reasons. The track then reopened June 2 but closed down again in the following days due to economic constraints, according to a message posted on its website, northgaspeedway.net.

Ellis and Wilson became the promoters after the track closed down in the middle of the 2011 season.
