Southeast Whitfield is moving on. Dalton, North Murray and Northwest Whitfield are coming home.
In state volleyball tournament second-round action today, Southeast’s Lady Raiders beat visiting Jonesboro 25-15, 18-25, 25-19, 25-20 in Class 4A to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
The Lady Raiders (33-10), the Area 7 champions and the No. 2 team in the Ga.PrepCountry.com Class 4A coaches poll, will play again Saturday.
In another Class 4A match, Northwest lost 25-7, 25-17, 25-8 at Columbus. The Lady Bruins, the No. 4 seed from Area 7, finished their season with an 18-22 record. Area 3 runner-up Columbus (28-25), ranked fourth, moves on to Saturday’s quarterfinals.
Also in Class 4A, Dalton lost 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 at Woodland-Henry. The Lady Catamounts (23-16), the area runner-up to Southeast, fell in the second round for the third straight season. Woodland (39-3) is ranked fifth and won the Area 4 title.
In Class 3A, North Murray (17-14), the No. 3 seed from Area 4, lost 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 at Woodward Academy in Atlanta. Woodward (39-13) is ranked second and has won 10 state titles since the GHSA began sanctioning the sport in 1993.

Bruins rise as Marist dominates in Class 4A boys tournament
