Three Cats wrestlers win medals in Cedartown

Dalton High entered just seven wrestlers Wednesday at Cedartown’s Bulldog Slam traditional tournament, but three Catamounts claimed medals, including two championships.

Dylan Carlile (126 pounds) and Sidney Wheeler (182), both juniors, finished first in their respective weight classes, while sophomore Werner Braun (195) took third. Carlile pinned in the finals to claim his title.

Dalton coach Michael Keefe wasn’t sure where the Cats placed among the dozen or so teams at the event, but he was pleased with the effort by his medalists — and Braun in particular.

“In his match for third, he beat the No. 2 seed,” Keefe said. “He really impressed me. He’s just getting better and better as the year progresses. He has improved a lot.”

Along with Northwest Whitfield and Southeast Whitfield, Dalton will return to Cedartown on Friday for the two-day Area 7-4A duals, the first leg of the wrestling postseason. Coahulla Creek and North Murray will compete at the latter’s Mountain-eer Gymnasium in the Area 2-3A duals over the same stretch and Murray County will wrestle in the Area 3-2A duals at Lovett School in Atlanta.
