Northwest Whitfield High School boys golf coach Jim McGrew was announced as the new women’s golf coach for Dalton State College’s fledgling athletics program Tuesday night during remarks by Roadrunners athletic director Derek Waugh at the conclusion of the North Georgia Invitational golf tournament.
“Jim McGrew is a great teacher of the game, and he is our new women’s golf coach at Dalton State,” Waugh said as he addressed the high school golfers at The Farm while giving them the rundown on the college’s relaunched athletic program.
McGrew, who is also a Bruins football assistant, said he will continue teaching at Northwest through the 2013-14 academic year and work part time with Dalton State, which will begin competition during the 2013-14 school year. He needs just one more year of teaching in a Georgia public school to be able to claim full retirement benefits.
“I am going to step into that role, and it is something I am really looking forward to,” McGrew said. “The opportunity came along, and it was something I couldn’t turn down.”
The Farm will be the Roadrunners’ home course for practice and competition.
