Here are the notes and news items from the week in the world of pro wrestling: WWE is taking heat for its controversial new angle featuring Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter.
The Hollywood Reporter published a WWE statement in response to criticism the company is casting the tea party movement in a bad light.
“WWE is creating drama centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view to develop a rivalry between two characters,” WWE spokesman Brian Flinn said. “This storyline in no way represents WWE’s political point of view. One should not confuse WWE’s storytelling with what WWE stands for, similar to other entertainment companies such as Warner Bros., Universal Studios or Viacom.”
• WWE and Paramount Pictures have partnered to pump up The Rock’s upcoming movies, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (to be released March 29) and “Pain & Gain” (April 26).
• The new WWE title belt cost more than $50,000.
