JV football: Manning plays part in both TDs for Raiders

Southeast Whitfield’s Damien Manning threw a 65-yard scoring pass to Devin Walden and had a 25-yard touchdown run, but it wasn’t enough for the Raiders, who fell 28-16 to Dalton in a junior varsity football game Thursday night at Harmon Field.

Dalton took a 7-0 lead, scoring after Southeast (4-3) had taken the opening kickoff and driven inside the Catamounts’ 10-yard line before fumbling the ball away. Manning’s touchdown pass to Walden pulled Southeast to within a point after the PAT failed, and Jonathon Sanchez hit a 38-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 9-7 lead.

Dalton responded with a pair of touchdowns to go up 21-9 before Manning’s touchdown run cut it to 21-16. Dalton scored the last touchdown for the victory.

Dalton’s individual statistics were not reported by The Daily Citizen’s deadline.
