ROME — Alumnus and Trustee Cecil B. “Buster” Wright III will be the featured speaker Saturday, Dec. 12, as Berry College celebrates its 2009 fall commencement. Approximately 100 students are expected to receive either bachelor’s or master’s degrees during the 2:30 p.m. ceremony, which will be held in the performance arena of the Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center. The event may be viewed remotely via streaming video at www.berry.edu/webcast.
A baccalaureate service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Berry College Chapel.
Wright is a 1973 graduate of Berry College who now serves as senior managing director and regional president for Wells Fargo Advisors in Rome. In this role, he provides leadership and support for 90 branches and more than 800 financial advisors spread across five different states. Earlier in his career, Wright spent 23 years with A.G. Edwards and Sons, including three years on the board of directors. During that period, he was among 100 influential figures selected for inclusion on the “Who’s Who in Banking and Finance” list compiled by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Wright’s community involvement is extensive, including a 35-year affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America. He is chairman of the Eagle Scout Board of Review and the 2001 recipient of the Boys Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth. He is also a board member and past president for the Boys and Girls Club of Rome.
Wright and his wife, Janice, live in Rome.
The student speaker for this year’s ceremony is Marcy Peterson, a double major in French and economics who came to Berry from the Marshall Islands. She plans to pursue a career in international politics after graduation.
