Berry College wind ensemble to present fall concert

ROME — The Berry College Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Glenn Garrido, will present its fall concert, “Celebrating International Education Week,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, in Ford Auditorium. The performance is part of the continuing celebration of 100 years of music-making on the Berry campus. Admission is free and open to the public. Call 706-236-2289 for more information.

The concert will open with the world premiere of Centennial Overture, composed by Dr. Stan Pethel, longtime Berry faculty member and chair of fine arts. Other selections will showcase music from Spain, France, Ireland, Latin America and the United States.

Special guest conductors will include 1985 Berry graduate George Barnett, Dr. Sam Baltzer, band director from 1994-1996, Justin Karch, a graduate student and staff member at Berry, and Lucidio Quintero of Venezuela, who will be conducting the premiere of his most recent work, Danzon.
