Shane Ramsey named Dalton High baseball coach

Shane Ramsey, the former Northwest Whitfield head softball coach and assistant baseball coach, has been hired as the head baseball coach at Dalton High, replacing former Catamounts coach Bobby Brotherton, who resigned earlier this summer to take an administrative position in the Whitfield County school system.

Brotherton, who was head coach for both baseball and softball at Dalton, is taking over as an assistant principal at the Career Academy. Jeff McKinney, who was an assistant under Brotherton and is the head coach for Lady Cats basketball, replaces Brotherton. McKinney had previously been a head softball coach and won a state title in Alabama.

Ramsey, who compiled a 70-37 record in his three years as head softball coach at Northwest and led the Lady Bruins to a pair of top-four finishes in the Class 4A state tournament, resigned from his coaching position on May 18. At the time he said he wanted to “spend more time with my family and boys.”

Ramsey will join Dalton High’s special education department, and Tuesday was his first day with his new school and program.
