Christian Heritage’s high school baseball team made program history this season as seven were players selected by league coaches for the GISA’s All-Region 4-2A team.
Junior Michael McKinney earned a place in the all-region lineup for the third straight year and also made the GISA Class 2A All-State team for the second year in a row. On the mound, he was 8-0 with two saves and a 2.17 ERA, and he struck out 59 batters in 58 innings. He also hit .301 with three home runs a team-high 29 RBIs, helping lead the Lions to a runner-up finish in the region and the Class 2A state quarterfinals.
Christian Heritage coach Noah Stokes believes McKinney, who also earned all-region and all-state basketball honors this year, is the region’s best pitcher.
“I just wish we could clone him,” Stokes said. “Every year he is getting older and the velocity goes up. He throws every pitch for a strike, has a good curve and can command the fastball. He’s as good as anybody else I have seen.”
Also on the all-region team for Christian Heritage were seniors Chase Kranzlein (right fielder) and Pate Duddleston (center fielder), junior Tre Mason (catcher), sophomore Jake Stokes (left fielder) and freshmen twin brothers Ian Robbins (shortstop) and Spencer Robbins (first base).
Mason and Stokes are on the all-region team for the second year in a row.
“It’s great to get this many people. I think the most we had before this season was five,” said Stokes, who is happy to bring back five of his seven all-region players as Christian Heritage prepares to enter GHSA play next school year. “We bring back our catcher (Mason), who is our anchor, our ace pitcher (McKinney) and some of our best hitters.”
