CHATTANOOGA — The Chattanooga Chapter of the Southeast Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA-Chattanooga) will host “Wine for the Climb” on Thursday, Jan. 14, 6 - 9 p.m., at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St., in Coolidge Park.
The event will raise funds to begin expansion on the existing 20-mile single track trail system surrounding the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Raccoon Mtn. pump storage facility. Using volunteer labor, SORBA-Chattanooga will construct two additional multi-use single track trails totaling approximately nine miles in length.
When complete, the trail expansion will allow access to the Raccoon Mtn. trail system from both the bottom and top of the mountain.
“Due to the extreme terrain that some of these new trails will traverse, specialized equipment rental will be required at considerable expense," says SORBA-Chattanooga president Jeffrey Schaarschmidt. "Community support is imperative to ensure that construction of these trails is a success.”
"Wine for the Climb" guests will be treated to samplings from Redwood Creek Wines and Earth Fare Grocery, as well as chances to win door prizes from Diamondback Bicycles and Fast Break Athletics. Author and cyclist Elle Colquitt will also be present to sign copies of her newly released book, "Off-Road Trails," in which she has profiled and mapped off-road trail systems in the Chattanooga area and East TN.
“Wine for the Climb” tickets are $30 each and can be purchased online at local bicycle shops, Outdoor Chattanooga, or online at www.SORBAChattanooga.org.
