Mark your calendars for Jan. 10 for the 3rd Annual Polar Bear Paddle down the Etowah River. Organized by the city of Rome, Adventure Rome N Around and CRBI, this cold-weather paddle trip attracts more than 100 paddlers each year. Come join the fun as we “brave the elements” while taking in the beautiful Etowah. Real polar bears are welcome to take a swim as well as a paddle!
The trip winds from Grizzard Park six miles to downtown Rome and Heritage Park. Shuttles will be provided from Heritage Park to Grizzard Park after the paddle for $5 per person. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available.
To reserve your space or rent a canoe or kayak, contact CRBI volunteer adventure trip coordinator Alan Crawford at (706) 291-7449 or at fatboyal@bellsouth.net.
Paddlers should plan on arriving at Grizzard Park by 10 a.m. Safety briefing is at 10:30 with boats launching by 11 a.m.

So when the junior came over the next-to-last hurdle at the Georgia High School Association’s Class 3A state track meet, she had no fears even when she hit the top of the hurdle and seemed to stumble.
