Citizen of the Week: Bob Neuls

You may be thinking, “I really want to help others who need it, but I’m having a hard time myself. What can I do?”

Answer — give your time, just like Bob Neuls does at the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center. The center provides safe shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

If a light bulb is out, Neuls replaces it. Walls need fresh paint? Neuls is your man. And say a young girl wants someone to read to her? He can do that, too.

Basically whatever the agency needs help with, Neuls does.

“He’s such a sweet man,” said financial operations coordinator Kathy Thornton. “He also helps in a financial aspect, too. I don’t know if he realizes the overall impact he makes and how much money he saves us. The kids love him, too. They used to call him ‘Bob the Builder.’”

Neuls has volunteered at the agency for more than five years, according to volunteer coordinator Kim Harrison. In 2009 he was presented the Earl Ball Award for giving at least 300 volunteer hours during that year. He also serves as lead volunteer for Make-A-Difference Day.

“He has a passion for the less fortunate,” said Harrison. “He goes above and beyond. We value him more than money because like other volunteers he gives his time. Our organization was founded on volunteers and they make it run.”

For his passion and for willingly donating his time to the Family Crisis Center, The Daily Citizen names Bob Neuls Citizen of the Week.
