Letter: An amazing weekend

The weekend of Oct. 12-14 was truly amazing as athletes, coaches and their families came to Dalton for the Special Olympics’ 2012 State Fall Games. Many thanks go to all the volunteers who made this event happen, and congratulations go to all the athletes who participated. Dalton is fortunate to be able to host such a wonderful event.

On a local note, Dalton native Lou Ann Boozer Leibovitz’s daughter Ashley served again this year as the final athlete in the Lighting of the Torch, signifying the start of the festivities Friday evening. Lou Ann, with her husband Brad and daughters Lauren and Ashley, all live in the Johns Creek area just outside of Atlanta. Their local police department raised the most financial support for these Olympics, resulting in Ashley’s opportunity to light the torch Friday night. Ashley is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Albert Boozer, both longtime Dalton residents. We can all be sure they’re proud of their granddaughter and her Olympic accomplishments.

Again, congratulation to all the athletes and many thanks to the corporate and individual volunteers that helped bring the Special Olympics to Dalton again this year.
