Letter: Replacing Forsee will be challenging

— Change is never easy as we settle into routines, get comfortable, and become friends with those we work and serve with. Speaking for the Northwest Georgia Regional Library Board and conveying our feelings about Joe Forsee, our friend and colleague who retired at the end of July, is not easy. Joe has been an exceptional library director for the past 17 years and this change will not be easy.

Joe, a 40-year librarian, brought a level of expertise to our system that was needed then and has proven to be a real asset in the current economic climate. Joe has shown great fortitude, grace and commitment in securing funds to keep the three libraries successfully up and running in the midst of major state and county funding cuts.

We will miss Joe. I have served on both the Dalton-Whitfield County Library Board and the Northwest Georgia Regional Library Board for several years and accepting Joe’s retirement letter was very difficult as I jokingly (not really) asked him to wait until I came off the board to do this!

The board faces a challenging task in filling Joe’s shoes.

In honor of Joe, the Northwest Georgia Regional Library Board has named the audio book collection in the Dalton-Whitfield County Library The Joe Forsee Collection. He was instrumental in starting this valuable resource for our community. The board congratulates Joe on a job well done and congratulates him on this hard worked for, well-deserved retirement.

Chair, Northwest Georgia Regional Library Board
