I wanted to write this letter to encourage everyone that has been affected by the economy, loss of jobs, divorces, and circumstances out of their control. The same as a lot of people, I have been affected by circumstances out of my control. I had owned my home, gotten married and bought a convenience store. I thought I had really reached my life dreams.
Owning the convenience store was a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I could remember my sisters and me playing together as we worked in my grocery store. I remembered telling my dad that, “One day I would have my own store.” I remember him telling me that all I needed to do was work hard and have a dream, and I could do it.
Then one day the opportunity presented itself for us to purchase the convenience store. My now ex-husband and I had bought our store in December 2007. I was skeptical due to the slowing economy, but I felt that I had what it took to make it work. I worked long and hard hours to get the business running as it should, only to have circumstances beyond my control cost me everything. The business had slowed to a crawl and my marriage had fallen apart.
So, then the worse came. I had to sell the business, the divorce came and I could not find a job so I lost my home of 20 years. I did not have a clue where to start. I went to work trying to get back on my feet again. I have to say that it took a lot of prayer, faith and determination. One day God opened a new door for me. Since I had the faith and the determination, God had put me in touch with the right person at the right time.
I have bought a home, and a tanning salon formerly know as Big O’s House of Tanning in Plainview. The new business name is Tropical Beach Side Tanning at 3552 Cleveland Highway.
This letter is to encourage anyone that has had any circumstance to cause them pain. Don’t give up but get tougher and more determined. We have the ability to choose how we come back from our losses. I have come back with my head held high and I hope that this letter may help encourage everyone or even one person to keep striving. Be determined and have faith in God that he will be our rock when we need him. He will be our strength to lift us up when we are on our knees.
Don’t give up on your dreams. You can do it. I’ve done it against all odds.

Voters should be wary of state’s promises
For a couple of years, some Whitfield County residents kept asking when they would see results from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) voters approved in 2007.
