You don’t have to leave Dalton to have a good time this weekend.
If you want to help support a couple of worthy organizations and spend some time in what is predicted to be beautiful fall weather, there are a couple of events taking place Saturday you might want to consider.
The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place at the Dalton Depot. The walk starts at 10 a.m. and registration begins at 9. Individuals will participate in a 5K Walk/Run and will learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment and support programs and services of the Alzheimer’s Association. If you don’t want to participate in the walk/run, you can still come out to support those who do.
And the Whitfield County-Dalton Day Care Center will hold a “Touch-A-Truck” fundraiser at the North Georgia Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $5, with children 2 and younger admitted free. “Touch-A-Truck” is an expo where local businesses and individuals display their vehicles and equipment. Children and their families will be able to see the vehicles and talk to their operators. But the event isn’t limited to trucks. Police cars, sheriff’s office cars and other smaller vehicles such as classic and antique cars will be on display.
If you want to support or to learn more about healthy parenting, a World Breastfeeding Week Celebration will be held today at the Murray County Recreation Center in Chatsworth from 10 a.m. to noon and at the Mack Gaston Community Center in Dalton from 5 to 8 p.m.
Finally, if you just want to have a good time with some of your neighbors, the Downtown Dalton Development Authority is hosting a free party downtown Saturday night from 7 to 11 on King Street complete with live music by The Pool (a Beatles cover band), “wee partier” activities, dance performances from the Creative Arts Guild, specials from downtown merchants and a beer garden.
So this is a good weekend to get out and enjoy the weather and support some worthwhile causes while you do it.
