Early voting starts Monday

Advance voting for the Nov. 6 general election starts Monday, and voters in Whitfield and Murray counties have plenty of decisions to make.

Obviously, the presidential race will be at the top of the ticket and on the minds of every voter, who must choose from Libertarian Gary Johnson (former governor of New Mexico), Democratic incumbent Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney (former governor of Massachusetts).

Voters in the two counties, along with the rest of Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, will also decide between Republican incumbent Tom Graves and Democrat Danny Grant.

That’s just one of about a half dozen contested local races in those two counties, and we’ll be running profiles, starting today, over the next couple of weeks on candidates in those races.

Advance voting takes place in Whitfield County at the elections office in the courthouse from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will take place in Murray County in the elections office in the courthouse annex from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Advance voting will also be held in both locations on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Advance voting ends Nov. 2.

You will need to bring one of the six accepted forms of photo identification. They are: a valid state or federal government-issued photo ID; a Georgia driver’s license, even if it’s expired; a valid employee photo ID from any local, state or federal government; a valid U.S. passport; a valid U.S. military photo ID; or a valid tribal photo ID.

If you are registered but can’t vote on Nov. 6, or even if you aren’t certain that you will be able to make it to the polls that day, please take advantage of advance voting.
