Mr. Ernest P. Newton, 70, of Chatsworth, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Murray Medical Center.
He is preceeded in death by brothers, Eugene Newton and Bill Newton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Aretta Newton; children and spouses, Mary and Skip Akers of Boaz, Ala., Jif and Tommy Gates of Ellijay, Venus and Cheryl Newton of Canton, Adrian Newton and Lucretia White, both of Chatsworth; brothers, Herbert Newton of Cherry Log, Bobby Newton of Elijay and Sister Maybelle Hice of Cherry Log; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. Newton will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shawn Chapman Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Stover officiating.
Interment will be in Murray Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. today.
