Aileen Pettit Shelton

Mrs. Aileen Pettit Shelton, 76, of Dalton departed this life Monday evening, Dec. 21, 2009, at Hamilton Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Aileen was born July 3, 1933, in Whitfield County, the last surviving child of the late Sam and Mattie Bennett Pettit. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Pettit and her sister, Gladys Shelton.

She worked many years at Shelton Carpet and was a member of Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Harold Shelton of the residence; daughter, Kathy Shelton of Resaca; sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Teresa Shelton, Gregg and April Shelton, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Matthew Shelton, Cole Shelton, Crystal Shelton and Leah Shelton; nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Aileen Shelton are Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with her pastor, the Rev. Ronald Guffey, officiating.

She will be laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery with Tim Smith, Keith, Tracy, Tommy, David and Terry Shelton serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
