Evelyn ‘Bigmama’ Phillips



Evelyn “Bigmama” Phillips, 96, of Chatsworth, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, in Chatsworth Health Care Clinic. She was born July 13, 1913.

She was preceded in death by her husband Greenie Phillips, sons James and Raymond Phillips, daughters Virginia Ruth Young and Carol Whitener, parents William T. and Mary C. dill, brothers Malcomb, Bentley, Gordon, Calvard and Tom Dill, granddaughters Cindy Whitener and Debbie Burns and grandson Bruce Young.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Bowen of Chatsworth, daughter-in-law Dorothy Phillips of Valley, Ala., son-in-law Charles Whitener of Dalton, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Cecile McCamy and Dee Davenport, sisters-in-law Mary Dill and Icey Dill, several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Chatsworth with the Rev. Nathan Headrick officiating. Burial will be in Sumach Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Jones Funeral Home of Chatsworth is in charge of funeral arrangements.
