Carl Frank ‘Bud’ Hawkins Jr.



Mr. Carl Frank “Bud” Hawkins Jr., 89, of Dalton, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Brattleboro, Vt., to the late C. Frank Hawkins Sr. and Marion Ulmer Hawkins and later moved to Dalton with his family in 1924.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Edwards Hawkins and a sister, Sue Hawkins Feild.

Carl was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the 41st Air Depot Repair Squadron during WWII in North Africa and Italy.

He was a member of the Dalton Rotary Club (Will Watt Fellow, Paul Harris Fellow), Dalton Elks Lodge — past Exalted Ruler, member of the Dalton Golf and Country Club, Dalton Recreation Commission, Junior Achievement of Dalton board of directors (past president), member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and owner of Dalton Sheet Metal Company Inc.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Carl Frank Hawkins III., William Edward Hawkins and Jackie all of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Dana P. Hawkins and Carolyn of Dalton; granddaughter, Kaelyn Hawkins of Charleston, S.C.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. C. Dean Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the parrish hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 852, Dalton, GA 30722.
