Avelin ‘Abbie’ K. Starr

Avelin “Abbie” K. Starr, of Fayetteville and Tilton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the age of 85.

She was married to the late Robert A. Starr for 62 years and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Garry A. Starr and Donna of College Park and Hal M. Starr and Sarah Ann of Stockbridge; nine grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Verlin King and Jane of Stone Mountain .

Mrs. Starr was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fayetteville. She was a faithful wife and loving mother. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. While suffering with Alzheimer’s disease in her latter years, she still had a sweet spirit. She was employed by Lockheed during World War II, building B52 bombers. She also worked at Macy’s in Atlanta.

Services will be at First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating.

She will be at the church at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton with a graveside service at 3 p.m.

The family will receive friends at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
